Kradel, Bricker, Bearup-Neal display “Rock, Scissors, Paper”

Upcoming Event

From staff reports

“Rock, Scissors, Paper” brings the work of three visual artist working in narrative forms to Center Gallery, 6023 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor, from Sept. 15-Oct. 8. A reception to open the exhibition is Friday, Sept. 15, 6 – 8 p.m.

Visual art is a powerful tool for telling stories, and each of the exhibitors in “Rock, Scissors, Paper” offer little tales about the things and events that inspire her artmaking. Julie Kradel, a ceramic sculptor from Cedar, creates four-legged beings—fox, mice, sheep, bears—that spring from the fables, nursery rhymes and music Kradel enjoys. Glen Arbor artist Beth Bricker mines her trove of fairy tales, rhymes and childhood memories to create intricate paper cuttings—some mounted, others collaged onto paintings—to tell her personal stories anew. Working in the media of the contemporary quilt and mixed media collage, Sarah Bearup-Neal, a Benzie resident, focuses on themes of tourism, local agriculture and rural, northern Michigan life.

Center Gallery is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call the gallery at 231-334-3179.
