Benefit dinner, auction held for Randy Weber

A Benefit Dinner & Auction will be held for Randy Weber on Saturday, Oct. 21, at St. Rita’s Hall at 9243 S. Maple City Rd. in Maple City. Randy Weber was seriously injured on Sept. 21 when a tree fell on him as he was cutting wood. He was in Munson Medical Center for 25 days, 19 of those in the intensive care unit, and is now in an Assisted Living Facility. He has very limited mobility at this time, and will need months of rehabilitation. It is unknown how long it will be before he can doing anything physical.
Randy played baseball at Glen Lake and later became head coach, amassing a 207-78 record. His Laker baseball teams won six Northwest Conference championships, four district titles, three regional titles, and advanced to the Class D state semi-finals in 2001. As head coach at Traverse city West, he amassed a 101-65 record, winning two district titles. Randy is a member of the Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. He was also a coach of the Traverse City Rockets, an American Legion team.
His family, friends and community are rallying behind him with a Benefit Dinner & Auction to assist the family now and during the weeks and months ahead to cover loss of income, travel costs, medical procedures and therapy, and other unexpected costs.
The benefit will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21, starting at 4 p.m. at St. Rita’s Hall, just south of Maple City featuring a dinner of pulled pork sandwiches, taco bar, potatoes, baked beans and various side dishes and desserts. Free-will donations are being requested for the meal. A silent auction, live auction, cash bar and other activities are planned. Live auction items will include several items, including: “Dinner on the Deck for 6” — a cooked meal for six in summer 2018 by Fr. Libby of Holy Rosary Church, eight hours of splitting and/or stacking wood by Tim Weber Jr., full pig (cut and wrapped). Other auction items include: four tickets to a Detroit Tigers game (behind the dugout), an 8-foot Cedar picnic table, hunting items & trail camera, a muzzleloader, a cross bow, corn hole game & bags, jewelry, gift certificates to various restaurants and stores, massages, four rounds of golf, and many more wonderful items.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to friends, former players and coaches, community members, Cedar Fire & Rescue, and Holy Rosary parishioners for all their support. The Benefit Dinner & Auction is open to everyone!
