Scott Tucker named Superintendent of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Scott Tucker, a 19-year veteran of the National Park Service (NPS), has been selected as the Superintendent of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Tucker currently serves as the Superintendent of Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, which consists of seven units along the Columbia River and the Pacific Coast from Long Beach, Washington, to Cannon Beach, Oregon. He will begin his new assignment in mid June.

Glen Lake Library hosts Stone Circle poet Terry Wooten

The Glen Lake Library will host a presentation by author and storyteller Terry Wooten, on Wednesday, May 4, at 7 p.m. Wooten is the founder and host of the Stone Circle, located north of Elk Rapids, a popular Northern Michigan summer tradition dedicated to the art of storytelling. His latest book, The Stone Circle Poems, was selected as a 2016 Michigan Notable Book. His appearance at the library will be part of a state-wide tour of Notable authors. Habitat for Humanity Leelanau County celebrates 30 years

This is the 30th anniversary of the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Help revitalize Habitat in Leelanau County by coming to St. Rita’s Rectory in Maple City, 6:30 PM, Wednesday, April 27. Habitat is an ecumenical Christian Housing Ministry that works with all people of goodwill to build and repairs decent homes in a partnership between people in need and those with the time, treasure and talents to help. We will plan renovations for 2016 and home construction in 2017. Refreshments will be served. National Park to name new Sleeping Bear superintendent by late May

The National Park Service will name the next superintendent to run Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore by the end of May — if not sooner — Park spokesperson Christine Powell told the Glen Arbor Sun today. Powell works out of the National Park’s Midwest Regional office in Omaha, Neb.
