Tiny homes offer small solutions to a large housing problem

As the housing market in northern Michigan continues to grow more competitive, some young entrepreneurs are finding creative solutions to their housing problems. Emily Grof is the architectural associate at the firm Design Smiths in Traverse City. She is one such creative problem solver who, with the help of Facebook Marketplace and Traverse City-based tiny-home builder Levi Meeuwenberg, has come up with a small solution for herself to the looming question of where to live.

Old Art Building focuses on fiber

The Old Art Building in Leland will present its 20th annual fall fiber event over the weekend of October 9-10. Focus on Fiber is an interactive exhibit sharing the art of hand-spinning, weaving and basketmaking. Participating artists include Sue Ann Carpenter, Nancy Doughty, Linda Good, Catherine Siterlet and Christie Trout. The event is open and free to the public from 10 am–4 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Taylor and Tori’s big walk through Leelanau

In June Taylor Moore, 30, manager of Goodwill Food Rescue, and Tori Craig 31, primary assistant at The Children’s House Montessori school, embarked on a five-day, 120-mile walking journey through Leelanau County.
