COVID-positive cases, close exposures rise at Glen Lake School—as vaccine approval for children nears

Glen Lake School is currently facing its highest COVID-19 positivity rate of the 2021-22 school year. As of Friday, Oct. 29, approximately 10 members of the school, including both students and staff, had tested positive. Those 10, combined with the number of close contacts who are quarantining at home this week, now total in the high-60s, Glen Lake superintendent Mark Mattson confirmed to the Glen Arbor Sun on Friday. That’s approximately 8% of the 835 members of the Glen Lake community—including 718 students and 117 staff members.

Art’s offers football Saturday bargains; trick-or-treating Sunday

A big weekend awaits Glen Arbor. On Saturday, during the much hyped Michigan vs. Michigan State football game at noon, Art’s Tavern will offer bargain deals. “We’re going to double the price of everything on the menu and then take 50 percent off,” boasted Art’s jovial co-owner Tim Barr. “For both Wolverine and Spartan fans!”

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore celebrates 51st anniversary with virtual events

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is continuing to celebrate the park’s 50th anniversary with the theme of “51 is the new 50.” The Lakeshore and Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes are holding a virtual celebration on the park’s anniversary, Thursday, Oct. 21. Cherry Country Quilters unveils COVID memorial quilt

A COVID memorial quilt made to honor those we’ve lost to the Coronavirus is finished and hanging on display at Cherry Country Quilters in Suttons Bay. The store, owned by Linda Mead, who died of COVID in late 2020, will close on Oct. 16. Cherry Country Quilters is currently holding a going-out-of-business sale.
