Glen Arbor Arts Center holds artist-in-residency presentation, Everyday Objects

From staff reports

Since the 1990s, the Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC) has welcomed visiting artists who want to immerse themselves in their work. The GAAC’s Suzanne Wilson Artist-in-Residence program offers up to seven creative practitioners a two-week respite from their daily lives in order to focus on a new idea that needs space and time to develop, to an on-going project that might be nearing conclusion.

The 2021 program began in May. Each of the GAAC’s residents offers a conversational presentation at the end of their stay. The presentations begin at noon at the GAAC. They are free, and open to the public. On October 8, Gail Wallace Bozanno discusses how she worked to complete a short story collection during her residency. Learn more about her work on Tsunami. Gail lives in Illinois.

Everyday Objects

The world is swimming in material goods — the stuff of landfills as well as the stuff of a rich body of work by visual artists. “Everyday Objects: Common Things, Uncommon Art” is a survey of work created during the 20th and 21st centuries from plumbing fixtures, shoes, and tires — among other things. This slide presentation is part of the Glen Arbor ArtsCenter’s exhibition Everyday Objects.

Common objects are well represented in the art historical movements of Dada, Surrealism, Pop and Modern Art; as well as the contemporary fashion world. However, the disarming nature of these familiar things often leads the viewer into more complex ideas, or asks the viewer to reconsider what qualifies as the subject of art and the materials used to make it.

This slide presentation may be viewed online in the GAAC Gallery through October 28. To purchase a view, visit GlenArborArts.org/Exhibits and click on the Everyday Objects exhibition link. Tickets cost $10 GAAC members, $15 nonmembers.
