Take the challenge. Run faster than the bear

From staff reports

Join the Glen Arbor Women’s Club for a fun-filled day at the “Running Bear 5K Run/Walk & ½ Mile Kids Run” on Tuesday, July 22. Come out and take the challenge as the run continues for its 18th year. The chip-timed race is a favorite with the community and visitors.

The Run makes a beautiful summer day even better. Spending it with family and friends who take the challenge is great fun. You can run or walk the 5K.  As a chip timed event, the race offers 16 categories from 10 & under to 80+.  Winners will receive medals and prizes from Cherry Republic and Crystal River Outfitters and The Cyclery.

In addition, the Women’s Club has the ½ Mile Kids’ Run for younger runners. They get to run with the Bear and take home a ribbon and a coupon for a free ice cream cone from Cherry Republic. Bring the whole family and enjoy a fun-filled day.

The event is staged at Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor. Registration runs from 7:30-8:45 am, and the race will leave from the corner of Lake and State Streets at 9 am. The Kids’ Run follows at 9:05. The race will start with the National Anthem and the Mascot “Running Bear” will cheer on all runners and charm the children. She loves photos so grab her for your special photo op.

After the Run, join the celebration. The winners for each age category will be posted as well as the male and female overall best winners. The Women’s Club will have lots of great food to temp your taste buds.

Ninety percent of proceeds go for college scholarships for Glen Lake students with the balance going for community projects. This year, the Women’s Club gave out seven scholarships totaling $17,800.

The cost is $25 for the 5K Run/Walk ($30, the day of the Run) and $5 for the Kids’ Run. You are encouraged to register early at RunningBearRun.com. Early registration will also take place at the Glen Arbor Town Hall from 10 am to 4 pm on Monday, July 21. You can register there and already registered runners can pick up their bibs as well. A limited number of T-shirts will be available for purchase and ordered shirts can be picked up. For more information, call 774-275-1752.
