Adirondack chairs painted by local artists and sponsored by local businesses have been on display around Glen Arbor this summer. This “ARTirondack Chair Event” is a new fundraiser for the Glen Lake Chamber of Commerce, a 501c organization, to help continue to represent and promote the region.
Sue Boucher, owner of the Cottage Book Shop, and Connie Kroll of Century 21 Northland Real Estate and Northland Vacation Rentals, were voted co-presidents at the Glen Lake Chamber meeting on May 8.
With the sun setting on summer, it’s now road construction season. The Michigan Department of Transportation informed the Glen Lake Chamber of Commerce of an M-22 road project scheduled to begin on Monday, Sept. 16. One-way vehicle traffic will commence on M-22 between Oak Street and County Road 675/Crystal View Road. The project is expected to be complete by early October.
The Glen Arbor Fourth of July parade, which next Thursday will celebrate half a century of annual patriotic celebrations, has come a long way since fire trucks were wrapped in primitive, spray-painted bedsheets. This year’s parade leaves Glen Haven at noon and typically arrives in Glen Arbor around 12:30. Spectators are encouraged to stake out a spot by mid-morning, as this event attracts hordes of people.
Spend your Thanksgiving weekend in Glen Arbor, where the town is busy preparing for a family-friendly weekend with numerous activities. Beat that turkey-induced urge to sleep, and rise early on Friday, Nov. 23, for the annual Pajama Party from 5-7 a.m. Many merchants open their doors and offer discounts on clothing, gourmet food, household decor, children’s items, art and jewelry. Patrons are encouraged to wear their pajamas while shopping around Glen Arbor for holiday gifts.
Runners and walkers will take the starting line in Glen Arbor on Saturday, June 16, for the inaugural Glen Arbor Solstice Half Marathon & 5k. With something to offer both hardcore endurance junkies and recreational athletes, the 13.1-mile race and 3.1-mile run/walk is expected to draw 400 participants.
“M-22 is all about the northern Michigan lifestyle,” an excited Matt Wiesen says while standing behind the wine counter at his and wife Katy’s new apparel store and tasting room in Glen Arbor. “It’s about a glass of wine on the boat, beaches, bonfires and a laid-back attitude.”
