Elberta, in nearby Benzie County, could fall prey to Governor Rick Snyder and the GOP-controlled Michigan legislature’s controversial Local Government and School District Accountability Act. This means that debt-ridden and financially troubled Elberta could fall under government financial review and, hypothetically, the town could be disbanded and turned over to non-elected Emergency Managers.

We are back from a great winter on Spanish Wells in the Bahamas. Fisher, Maggie and I spent many days spearfishing as the weather was the best we have seen it in a long time. There were many large sized Mutton fish, Hogfish, Margots and Grouper this season.

Leelanau County ranks second in the state in health, according to a study conducted by the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute. The study is based on healthy outcomes — a measure of length and quality of life — and health factors, which measures health behaviors, access to and quality of clinical care, social and economic factors, and physical environment.

Explore the park while learning about myths and legends, spring love , becoming a Junior Ranger, and figuring out what is lurking in the trees, all while getting healthy. A boat wash workshop will be held on April 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Leelanau Community Government Center Community Meeting Room, lower level. Learn protocol for washing your own watercraft and recreational equipment and the importance of using the boat wash at the DNR site on Little Glen Lake.
