This program of patriotic music takes place on the lawn of the Glen Arbor Athletic Club, M-22, Glen Arbor, Wednesday, July 3, 7 p.m. Bring lawn chairs, friends and family to catch the spirit of our Independence Day music. The Manitou Music Festival concert series kicks off Tuesday, July 3 at7 p.m. with everyone’s perennial favorite patriotic tunes to be performed by the Northport Concert Band, the pride of Leelanau County. This free concert takes place on the lawn of the Glen Arbor Athletic Club at 6363 Western Avenue. Bring your friends and family, lawn chairs and blankets … and patriotic spirit. In the event of rain, the band will perform at the Glen Arbor Town Hall. Miranda Monroe, a Registered Dietitian and principal of Grand Traverse Nutrition, will share tips for easy and healthy meal preparation using local foods available to everyone in Leelanau County. A series of four, hour-long classes, will be held at the Glen Arbor Athletic Club every other Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
This winter will feature open skating on a new rink in Glen Arbor. Located in the Lake Street Woods (behind Leelanau Coffee Roasting and the Cottage Book Shop), the 40′ x 60′ sheet of ice will be open to skaters of all age.
The Manitou Music Festival rings in its 21st year on July Fourth weekend with a free Saturday concert by the Northport Community Band, one of Leelanau County’s favorite groups. Bring lawn chairs and blankets to the lawn outside the Glen Arbor Athletic Club for a 4 p.m. concert of patriotic music. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Glen Arbor Township Hall.

The Glen Arbor Athletic Club will soon open its doors to locals who want to trim down or beef up in the same historic two-room school house where students were once asked to listen up and jot down notes. Two couples, Paul and Marcia Walters and Terry and Linda Gretzema, who have summered here over the years and now consider themselves permanent locals, stumbled on the idea of opening an athletic club when they realized they wanted to stay active, somehow, during their golden retirement years up north. And what better way to keep the flabs at bay than by working those abs every morning.
