You’re invited to Winterfest in Glen Arbor. The Chili Cook-Off will be on the deck at Boonedocks on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 12-3 pm, or until the chili runs out. This sizzling event promises a flavorful showdown and celebration of winter in Northern Michigan! Dress for the weather. Due to the current conditions and weather forecast, the Perch Fishing Contest has been canceled.

Glen Arbor’s Winterfest, the anticipated mid-winter event, takes place annually the Saturday of President’s Day weekend. This year’s perch fishing contest has been canceled due to a lack of ice on the Glen Lakes. But the chili cook off will be held on the deck of Boonedocks restaurant in Glen Arbor on Saturday, Feb. 18, from noon-3 pm.

Miserable weather conditions in the early morning hours of Saturday, Feb. 19, didn’t stop these hearty souls at Glen Arbor’s Winterfest. Fifty-three people braved white-out snow conditions and below-zero temperatures to participate in a perch fishing contest with proceeds benefiting the Glen Lake School scholarship fund. All told, the event raised more than $9,100 raised for Glen Lake scholarships.

The restaurants are open for outside dining, the visitors are returning, and around Leelanau the dunes are alive with the sound of music. Several venues, from restaurants to bars to wineries, are offering live music in our area this summer. They include, in Glen Arbor, Boonedocks, Cherry Public House, M22 Wine, Glen Arbor Wines, and Whiskers at The Homestead, and elsewhere in the County, Hop Lot, Rove Estate, and Little Traverse Inn. Boone Dock’s in Glen Arbor features live music every weeknight on its popular outdoor deck. The schedule is as follows: Boondoggies every Sunday and Monday evening; Cabin Fever every Tuesday; New Third Coast every Wednesday and Friday; Uncle Z every Thursday; bands rotate Saturdays.

The next Empire Area Emergency Fund concert — which raises money for anonymous local individual in need — will be held on Sunday, March 1, from 4-6 p.m. at Boonedocks in Glen Arbor.
