Support Leelanau Christian Neighbors at “Run for the Roses” Derby Day Party

Upcoming Event

From staff reports

Get ready for an evening of Kentucky Derby excitement with a purpose. Leelanau Christian Neighbors (LCN) invites the community to its “Run for the Roses” Derby Party fundraiser on Thursday, May 1, starting at 6 pm. The festive event will be held at the picturesque Mountain Flower Lodge at The Homestead Resort in Glen Arbor.

Guests will enjoy the thrill of the Kentucky Derby, complete with delicious food and drinks, lively music, and the anticipation of the “greatest two minutes in sports” — all while directly supporting LCN’s crucial programs. Attendees are encouraged to embrace the Derby spirit and don their most stylish hats and bow ties.

Adding a unique and engaging twist to the fundraising efforts, LCN will feature a spirited hobby horse race. Each hobby horse will champion a specific LCN program, and their progress on the track will be determined by community donations. The more support a program receives, the faster its hobby horse will gallop toward the finish line! This interactive race promises friendly competition, with all proceeds benefiting LCN’s ongoing commitment to assisting Leelanau County residents facing hardship. Individuals who cannot attend the Derby Party but want to “place a bet” on a hobby horse, can do so by clicking here.

“We’re excited to bring this fun and engaging event to our community,” said LCN executive director Mary Stanton. “The ‘Run for the Roses’ Derby Party is a fantastic way to celebrate together and directly contribute to the vital services LCN provides to our neighbors in need. We anticipate a lively evening, especially with our unique hobby horse race adding an extra layer of excitement for a truly great cause.”

Tickets for the “Run for the Roses” Derby Party are available for $75 per person and can be purchased online.

Sponsors of this event include Elemint Wealth Management, K-Line, Easling Construction, Hansen Foods, Bob and Kathy Laba, Acrisure Insurance, ASH Contracting, Bahle’s, Bay Books, Bayshore Oil and Propane, Leelanau Computer Repair, Independent Bank, Mercantile Bank, Poppy Things, Shady Lane Market, Sunset Lodge, and Tri Gas Distributing.

Leelanau Christian Neighbors is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the residents of Leelanau County by providing essential services and support to individuals and families in need. LCN’s services include food and baby pantries, Blessings in a Backpack, the thrift store Samaritans’ Closet, and the Neighborhood Assistance Ministry (NAM), which helps with various urgent needs. Through these efforts, LCN works to foster a caring and inclusive community where everyone has access to the resources necessary for a better quality of life.
