Leelanau Christian Neighbors expands affordable housing in Maple City

From staff reports

Leelanau Christian Neighbors (LCN) is proud to announce a significant expansion of its commitment to addressing the critical affordable housing shortage in Leelanau County with the purchase of two homes in Maple City. These acquisitions will provide much-needed long-term rental opportunities at below-market rates for local residents.

This latest investment builds upon LCN’s successful entry into affordable housing with the purchase of a residential property in Lake Leelanau in 2024. The new Maple City properties include a two-bedroom, two-bathroom home and a three-bedroom, two-bathroom home, both intended for one-year long-term rentals. To ensure professional and compassionate management, HomeStretch Nonprofit Housing Corporation will oversee the properties, leveraging its expertise in affordable housing solutions.

“We are deeply concerned about the housing crisis in Leelanau County. Too many of our neighbors who do have a place to live are enduring unsafe or inadequate conditions,” said LCN executive director Mary Stanton. “With the support of our community, we are committed to making a meaningful difference—one step, one family, one home at a time.”

The housing crisis continues to be a pressing issue in Northern Michigan, impacting essential workers, families, and seniors alike. By offering stable, affordable housing, LCN aims to alleviate financial burdens and provide a secure foundation for individuals and families to thrive within their community.

LCN remains dedicated to its mission of providing essential services and support to individuals and families in need across Leelanau County. These new housing initiatives are a direct response to community needs and a testament to LCN’s unwavering commitment to fostering a caring and inclusive environment for all residents.
