Leelanau Christian Neighbors announces expansion with new “Samaritans’ Closet” location in Empire

News

From staff reports

Leelanau Christian Neighbors (LCN) announced today the expansion of its retail operations with a second Samaritans’ Closet thrift store, located at 11840 S. Lacore Rd. in Empire. This new location aims to better serve the residents and visitors of the west side of Leelanau County, providing easier access to affordable goods and a convenient local donation center.

LCN has officially signed the lease and is currently in the process of renovating the facility to create a welcoming shopping and donation experience. The organization has already hired a dedicated manager for the Empire location, who is currently training at the Lake Leelanau flagship store to ensure the same high standards of service and community care are brought to the new branch.

The project is moving forward quickly, with the organization expecting to begin accepting community donations in mid-May. If renovations stay on track, LCN aims to host a grand opening and be fully operational by Memorial Day weekend, providing a fresh shopping destination just in time for the start of the summer season.

“We are thrilled to plant roots on the west side of the county,” said LCN executive director Mary Stanton. “By opening in Empire, we are making it easier for our neighbors to support LCN without the drive to Lake Leelanau. Every purchase made and every item donated stays local, directly funding our mission to assist Leelanau County residents in need.”

Like its predecessor, the Samaritans’ Closet – Empire will function as a vital social enterprise. 100% of the proceeds from the store go directly toward supporting LCN’s essential services, including food pantries and financial assistance programs for our neighbors.

About Leelanau Christian Neighbors:

Through these efforts, LCN works to foster a caring and inclusive community where everyone has access to the resources necessary for a better quality of life.
