Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore hosts 50th Anniversary “Spring Break Escape Film Fest”

From staff reports

Take a spring break vacation without leaving home. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is commemorating its 50th anniversary throughout 2020. The next special event is a “Spring Break Escape — National Parks Film Festival” held over four dates in March: Saturday, March 21; Friday, March 27; Saturday, March 28; and Tuesday, March 31. All films will be shown in the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center auditorium starting at 12:30 p.m. Films will be shown until 3:30 p.m. This event is free and great for families.

Show times of each film will vary. Come for the whole time or drop in for as long as you would like. Seating is limited to the first 100 due to auditorium capacity. Bring your own water bottle. Light snacks will be provided by the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes. There will also be engaging activities in the visitor center and ways to share stories about your most memorable national park adventures. The visitor center will be open until 4 p.m. each day.

The weather this time of year can be challenging. Winter hasn’t quite let go, spring isn’t here yet, and the trails and roads are beginning to experience melting snow. No better time than this month to visit the National Lakeshore’s visitor center for the “Spring Break Escape — National Parks Film Festival” to watch films about your favorite national parks, including well-known Grand Canyon, scorching Death Valley, sunny Gulf Island, remote Glacier Bay, and Apostle Islands National Lakeshore, which is also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The National Lakeshore has 14 fascinating park films to share and is planning at least one special event each month in 2020. Don’t forget to share your National Lakeshore experiences on social media using #SleepingBear50 and #shareSLBE.
