Northport Arts Association holds Photo Exhibit

Upcoming Event

From staff reports

The Northport Arts Association is proud to present the 2026 Northport Photo Exhibit, launching Memorial Day weekend with a FREE Opening Reception on Saturday, May 23 from 5–7pm at the Northport Arts Association, 301 N. Mill St., Northport, MI. This popular annual exhibit, now in its nineth year, continues to grow in both artistic reach and visual diversity.

The Opening Reception is FREE and open to the public, featuring complimentary appetizers and a cash bar. The exhibit will run from May 24 through June 14, with gallery hours Tuesday through Sunday, 12–4 PM.

This year’s show features the work of photographers from across Michigan and beyond, including both professional and emerging artists. With more than 100 framed photographs on display and additional unframed works in gallery art bins, visitors can expect a wide range of photographic styles and techniques—from classic landscapes and wildlife photography to mobile and modern creative works.

All photos are judged across multiple categories, with criteria including impact, lighting, storytelling, technical quality, and presentation. Awards include Best of Show, a new award by an anonymous donor “Dem Der Eyes”, People’s Choice, and four category awards in Color Creative, Color General, Nature and Black & White/Monochrome. At the time of this release, esteemed judges include Scott Wilson (VADA Color) and Carol Greilick (Traverse Area Camera Club).

Attendees visiting between May 24–30 are invited to participate in selecting the People’s Choice Award, which will be announced in the June 1 edition of the NAA Weekly News.

At the time of this release, this year’s talented photographers include: Paul Anderson, Allison Acosta, Virginia Baxter, Amber Bingham, Tracey Bos, Mary Ann Carrie, Diane Belfour, Donald Daniels, Lisa Erickson, Scott Cain, Jo Gingras, Allen Heuer, Marjorie Farrell, Walt Farrell, Marilyn Hoogstraten, Michael Haynes, Ted Lacey, Bela Lantos, William Lindeman, Shea Obrien, Riley Palmer, Esther Send, Donald Spezia, Harris Suzuki, Tim Wade, Sheen Watkins, Rachel Winslow and A Wiltse.

Whether you’re an art lover, a photography enthusiast, or simply looking for a creative day trip, Northport is absolutely worth the drive. Nestled along the Grand Traverse Bay shoreline, this charming village offers the perfect backdrop to experience the stunning variety and talent featured in this extraordinary photography exhibit. Make a day of it—come for the art, visit the unique local businesses and restaurants and enjoy the beauty of Northport.

Special thanks to people that work together to make the photo exhibit happen each year – Linda Bayer, Sheen Watkins, Lisa Westling, Tim Wade, Walt Farrell, Esther Send, Chris Woomer, all of the volunteers that help at the reception and our wonderful judges – Carol Greilick and Scott.

The Northport Arts Association is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering a vibrant creative community.
