Moko Hanga in Glen Arbor

Upcoming Event

From staff reports

Linda Beeman, an Owosso, Mich., resident specializing in Japanese woodblock printing, will exhibit her prints of the landscape and lakeshores of northern Michigan and Japan from Aug. 29-Sept. 18 at the Lake Street Studios Center Gallery in Glen Arbor. The show opens Aug. 29, 6 p.m. with a reception for the artist.

Beeman practices a time-consuming art with ancient roots in Japan. She is one of two professional artists in Michigan practicing moku hanga. In May, Beeman prepared for her Center Gallery exhibition during an artist residency with the Glen Arbor Art Association. She immersed herself in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, sketching, painting and photographing imagery to translate into carved wood blocks from which a limited edition prints are made. A portion of the work generated as a result of her residency will be exhibited in Center Gallery and in Japan, as part of the “Art From the Lakes” exhibition in Tokyo and Shiga, Japan.
