Manitou Music series features Jazz North, Ruth and Max Bloomquist, Réalta

Jazz Northis a “little” big band. And on Sunday, July 21, Jazz North occupies Lake Street Studio Stage in the next Manitou Music concert. The concert begins at 8 pm.

The horn section in this regional conglomerate gels with the rhythm section to perform everything from funk to swing to rhythm and blues, from Latin to bebop. These experienced musicians have played together for many years, creating a tight musical camaraderie and demonstrating their love of playing music for anyone with a toe to tap.

Ruth and Max Bloomquistcelebrate 40 years of performing their style of Acoustic Americana, with roots in folk, bluegrass, and traditional music. They bring those decades and more to Studio Stage as part of the Manitou Music series on Wednesday, July 24, 8 pm.

Ruth is well known for her songwriting as well as her striking alto voice. The pair have been making music together since they met in 1975 and discovered their shared love for music made with acoustic instruments and featuring lyrics from the heart.

Réaltamake full use of the intricate melodies and driving rhythms that make Irish music so loved throughout the world. Réalta performs on dueling uilleann pipes, whistles, bodhrán, guitar, bouzouki, double bass and vocals on Studio Stage Wednesday, July 31, 8 pm as part of the Manitou Music series. This award-winning, Belfast-based band will lead the listener on a journey of music and song through the full range of the Irish tradition.

Manitou Music concerts are a project of the Glen Arbor Arts Center. Tickets cost $20 for nonmembers, $18 for GAAC members, and people under age 18 are free.
