Leland’s Old Art Building hosts inaugural Community Tweed Ride
From staff reports
The Old Art Building in Leland will host its inaugural Community Tweed Ride on Saturday, May 4, from 2-4 pm. The free event is sponsored by Suttons Bay Bikes, Dam Candy Store, Cherry Republic and the Leland Lodge.
A Tweed Ride is a leisurely, non-competitive bicycle ride where participants don vintage-inspired clothing, often featuring tweed fabrics, plus fours, bowties, and other attire reminiscent of the early 20th century.
This joyful community experience aims to evoke the elegance and charm of a bygone era while celebrating the joy of cycling. These rides are not just about the destination; they’re about the journey and the camaraderie of like-minded individuals. Meet at the Old Art Building with your bike, adorned in your finest “vintage looks!” This is a chance for you and your friends to get out and welcome springtime in a fun, energetic and new way. Riders will enjoy a truly unique scenic route all around Leland in a slow unhurried pace.
Route highlights include: free candy bags at the Dam Candy Store; free root beers at the Leland Lodge; and Cherry Republic pie waiting for you at the end of the ride.
These top tweeders will win awards: Best Bicycle; Most Creative Costume; Most Distinguished Lady; Most Distinguished Gentleman; Beard of Honor; Top Hat and Tweed Ride Spirit Award.
