Leland, Glen Arbor hold Labor Day Bridge Walks

From staff reports

The 21st annual walk across the mighty Leland Bridge in honor of Labor Day will take place on Monday, Sept. 2, at noon. Leland residents, family and friends will begin gathering at 11:30 a.m. in the parking lot behind the Blue Bird in preparation for the historic walk. Labor Day, is an annual celebration dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.

Post 7731, VFW Honor Guard will lead the crowd when the air horn sounds. And, of course, no bridge walk is complete without Joanne and Keith Burnham and Biscuit helping to lead the way in a golf cart provided by the Leland Lodge. Uncle Sam (aka Garth Goodenow) will be on hand to greet folks prior to the walk.

Participants who complete the trek across the bridge will be awarded a certificate of achievement plus freshly made cookies and lemonade supplied by the Leland Mercantile to rejuvenate everybody’s energy following the crossing.

The Labor Day Walk is brought to you by the Leland Committee for Holiday Excitement. Everyone is encouraged to join us for some holiday fun.
