Lake Street Studios features Jeff Condon, Gene Rantz
Grand Rapids artists Jeff Condon paints the “Beauty of the Earth,” an exhibition of landscapes opening Aug. 30 at Center Gallery at Lake Street Studios, 6023 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor. This show opens 6 p.m. with a reception.
Condon’s approach to landscape painting takes a fresh, original twist. He abstracts the perspective by flattening farmhouses and fields, and paints in a range of unexpected, vibrant colors not found in the natural world he venerates. Condon works in oil pastel and oil stick in both studio and plein air settings. “Beauty of the Earth” continues through Sept. 5.
“The Color and Atmosphere of Leelanau,” a group of new oil paintings by Northport artist Gene Rantz, opens Sept. 6 at the Center Gallery. A 6 p.m. reception begins this exhibition of work inspired by Rantz’s home county.
“The paintings are an expression of my fascination with nature’s splendor, especially here in my own backyard,” Rantz said. “They’ll represent the hills, fields, orchards, dunes and waters of this wonderful place.” Rantz begins the process with plein air watercolor sketches. The paintings are completed in his studio over a period of weeks. “The Color and Atmosphere of Leelanau” continues through Oct. 14.
