Leelanau Conservancy holds picnic and silent auction
From staff reports
The Leelanau Conservancy will hold its annual Friends Picnic and Auction on Thursday, August 7 at the gorgeous “Top of the World” property owned by the Gregory Family.
The picnic begins at 5 p.m. and features a silent auction, as well as pre-picnic field trips, a Kids Tent and a special program. A local foods-focused meal will be served, along with local wines. Tickets are $30 for adults until August 4, when the price goes up to $35. Tickets for Kids Tent children under 12 are just $5.
“This is always a great event for everyone who loves Leelanau County,” says communications director Carolyn Faught. “It’s a chance celebrate the work we have done together to preserve our beautiful natural lands and working farms.” She adds that around 800 people are expected to attend the picnic, which includes pre-picnic field trips, a local foods menu and an “exciting auction with a lot unique, can’t-buy-it Leelanau experiences.”
Among them: Several dinners prepared by local chefs, a Morel mushroom hunt and a Cedar River pontoon tour with executive director Brian Price. Outside-the-county offers include dinner for four at Mario Batali’s New York Babbo restaurant, a week at a Delray Beach condo, Detroit Tiger or Michigan football tickets, or a weekend at a New York penthouse.
Also planned is the much-loved Children’s Tent for ages 3 to 12 which will be supervised by staff from the Leelanau Children’s Center. There will be the ever popular Legos and crafts; a nature scavenger hunt for kids led by staffer Jenee Rowe. “We love to see young families getting involved with the Conservancy as they are the future stewards of our peninsula,” says Rowe.
The auction will kick off with a fun “Heads and Tails” game for a Leelanau Local Door Prize. The evening will culminate with a short program and awards. To view auction items, order tickets and download the picnic flyer visit LeelanauConservancy.org or call 231-256-9665.
