Glen Lake Fire Department gets good night’s sleep

From staff reports

“This time of year we get a call pretty much at least once every night,” said Glen Lake fire chief Bryan Ferguson. “So the time you get to spend sleeping (at the fire station, between calls) is pretty nice.”

Enter Currie’s Furniture, which recently donated 10 new, high-quality bed mattresses to the fire department—six for the Glen Arbor crew and four for Empire. The double-sided mattresses, which are made in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, cost approximately $330 each.

Greg Currie, whose company is based in Traverse City, received a call from Bob Hawley with the Fire & Rescue Association in Glen Arbor several months ago who was seeking quotes for new mattresses for the fire department. “I thought it would be a nice idea if we just donated the mattresses to them,” said Currie. “We didn’t want to give them something cheap; we decided to give them one of our best-selling mattresses. … These guys and gals deserve a good night sleep.”

“We’re very thankful to have them,” smiled Ferguson.
