Glen Lake Association sponsors “What’s Next?” storm recovery workshop
From staff reports
The Glen Lake Association will sponsor a panel discussion and Q&A to help people throughout the region whose property was affected by the Aug. 2 storm.
The free discussion is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. Panelists include Kama Ross, forester for the Leelanau, Benzie and Grand Traverse Conservation Districts; Paul Gerhart, professional forester and consultant from northwest Lower Michigan; and Mark Polinko, landscape architect. Rob Karner, Glen Lake Association biologist, will moderate.
Among the topics that will be discussed at the “What’s Next?” workshop are:
• Do I replant trees on my property?
• What is the best time to replant?
• What effect will the storm damage have on my septic system?
• What do I do with my injured trees that are still standing?
• How do I deal with all the stumps that are left?
• What do I do with all the mulch that was generated from my downed tree branches?
• Will insects, fungi and disease now invade my healthy trees?
• What do I need to do now to restore my property?
• Has the storm damage affected water quality?
