Glen Arbor Sun wins seven awards from Michigan Press Association’s 2023 Better Newspaper Contest

The Glen Arbor Sun won seven awards in four different categories from the Michigan Press Association’s 2023 Better Newspaper Contest among local news media for stories published between August 1, 2022, and July 31, 2023.
In the Best Opinion category, Alexandra Dailey won first place for for her November 2022 story, “Taking Account: Road to healing in our Native communities,” and Julie Zapoli won second place for her April 2023 story, “Businesses change in a changing town.”
The Sun won three awards in the Business/Agriculture News category: Abby Chatfield won first place for her November 2022 story, “Fighting food insecurity: social justice warriors provide love-infused meals in Leelanau”; Zapoli won second place for her May 2023 story, “Local farm produce springs in Leelanau“; and Jacob Wheeler received an honorable mention for his August 2022 story, “Second-generation farmhand delivers grapes, workers, tortillas.”
In the Feature story category, Katie Dunn received an honorable mention for her May 2023 story “Kissing the artist’s spring ground.”
And in the Spot News category, Wheeler won second place for his July 2023 story, “Joys and perils of open water.”
