Glen Arbor Arts Center hosts authors Mills, Perkins, Stander

News

From staff reports

Three northern Michigan authors discuss the different ways Leelanau County, its homes and places figure into their fiction and nonfiction writing on June 23 at 2 pm at the Glen Arbor Arts Center, 6031 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor. This program is open to the public without charge.

The writing of local authors Stephanie Mills, Lynne Rae Perkins and Aaron Stander is linked by its focus on place and home. Each of these writers will discuss how their stories are propelled by Leelanau; by the concept of living in-place; and how we understand what home looks like.

Maple City writer Stephanie Mills, the author of six books, is a nationally-recognized voice of bioregionalism.

Suttons Bay author-illustrator Lynne Rae Perkins, a 2006 Newberry Medal winner, is the author of the 1995 picture book Home Lovely and 12 other books for young and young adult readers.

Interlochen residentAaron Stander, is author of 10 Ray Elkins mysteries set in “Cedar County, Michigan,” a mash-up of many Leelanau County communities, businesses and landmarks.

This program is offered in conjunction with the GAAC exhibition “New Views: Home/Place,” an exploration of home and place identity. The exhibition runs from June 7-August 8. For more information visit GlenArborArt.org.
