Glen Arbor Arts Center hosts artists in residence

From staff reports

After a year’s hiatus for construction, the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s (GAAC) Artist-in-Residence program resumes in May. This program of working residencies was established in the 1990s, and now attracts applicants from throughout the United States. At the end of each residency, the artist-resident makes a public presentation at the GAAC, and talks about the work accomplished during this two-week stay.

Ann Arbor resident Brenna K. Murphy is the GAAC’s first resident in 2018. During her residency, Murphy will create an installation honoring the memory of a late friend. This piece, which will be documented, is an extension of the work she has done toward her MFA at the University of Michigan Stamps School of Art and is inspired by the creation myth of the Sleeping Bear Dunes. Murphy will share highlights from her residency on Thursday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the GAAC, 6031 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor.

Ohio resident Stephanie Craig works with clay, and will be using her May 20-June 2 residency to prepare for an upcoming exhibition, “Crafting a Safe Home,” at the Ohio Craft Museum in Columbus. Craig’s talk is Thursday, May 31, at 7:30 p.m. at the GAAC.

All presentations are free and open to the public. For more information, visit GlenArborArt.org.
