Glen Arbor Art Association’s Talk About Art to Interview Donna Popke

Upcoming Event

DonnaPopkeTalkAboutArtFrom staff reports

Suttons Bay sewist, Donna Popke makes curtains, slipcovers and a range of odd, kinetic ottomans and footstools. Now she wants to add “reality show contestant” to her resume. Popke talks about her multidimensional sewing life at the April 18 “Talk About Art” interview, 7:30 p.m., at the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA), 6031 S. Lake Street.

This is Popke’s second attempt to become a contestant on the reality show “Project Runway.” The program pits sewists and burgeoning fashion designers against one another in a 10-week series of challenges and tests. Popke’s interior design work, done under the moniker “Dream Covers,” has allowed her to hone her craft over three decades. But in 2012, Popke decided to expand her sewing into the realm of art-influenced wearables. She will talk about the many threads that link her diverse activities.

Talk About Art, now in its fifth season, brings local and regional artists to the GAAA for conversations about art making, thinking and process. The series is open to the public without charge. For more information, please call (231) 334-6112.
