Glen Arbor Art Association’s Readers’ Theater launches second season

Upcoming Event

From staff reports

After a successful inaugural year, the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) will begin its second season of Readers’ Theater with “The 39 Steps”, a fast-paced thriller about spies, secrets, murder and mayhem.

Auditions will be held at the GAAA building on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. for performances on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.

The Readers’ Theater concept involves actors performing adaptations from novels (or, in this case, an Alfred Hitchcock screenplay) using only their voices and facial expressions to dramatically convey the story to their audience, rather than sets, costumes or props. There is no memorization required.

The Glen Arbor Art Association has long been associated with promoting artists of many genres in Leelanau County. Readers’ Theater now joins the ranks of the Manitou Music Festival, Artist in Residence gallery showings, Talk About Art and the many children’s programs as yet another avenue for community members to participate in and enjoy.

Scripts are available for check out during office hours, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The GAAA is located in Glen Arbor at 6031 S. Lake Street. Watch for the gravel drive behind Lake Street Studios and across from Cherry Republic. For more information, rehearsal schedule and future performance dates, please contact Mason Query at MasonQuery@mac.com or by calling (972) 965-3950.
