Art Association hosts final Artist in Residence
The final presentation of the Glen Arbor Art Association’s Artist-in-Residence series will be on Thursday, Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. Pennsylvania artist and summer resident of Burdickville, Lynn Uhlmann will present her work of landscapes in the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore.
Uhlmann received her MFA from the University of Kansas and BFA from New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She has studied in Germany and Colorado and is currently an Adjunct Professor of Art at Shippensburg University (PA). She has exhibited extensively and received grants and awards from numerous institutions.
During her residency Uhlmann plans to paint a series of plein air “quick paintings” of her favorite Leelanau spots as well as finding new locations. “I want more spontaneity in my work and this project would accomplish that goal.”
She will be painting larger works on canvas from the quick painted sketches at the Thoreson Farm studio that the Art Association makes available to artists-in-residence. She verbalizes the essence of the program by saying, “This residency would give me the liberating opportunity to be immersed in my work without the demands of family. This program would be monumental for me at this point in my career.”
During the winter months Uhlmann works in her home studio from the hundreds of photos she takes every summer. Her work will be available on Facebook with journal notes.
The Glen Arbor Art Association is located across from Cherry Republic on Studio Lane. Light refreshment will be served. For more information call (231) 334-6112.
