Empire Heritage Group revisits sinking of The Rescue

Historical Feature, Upcoming Event

From staff reports

The Empire Area Heritage Group will hold a program at the Glen Arbor Town Hall on July 31 at 7:30 p.m. about the Sinking of the Dorsey boat The Rescue. Popcorn and water will be available, and donations will support the Empire Area Historical Museum.

The Rescue was a steamship that owner Ralph Dorsey intentionally sank in Big Glen Lake in 1914. The reason why Dorsey destroyed his boat is known only by the lake, and Dorsey’s ghost, leaving folklore to play a guessing game. Read more about that mystery, and how diver and filmmaker Ross Richardson found the boat at the bottom of Glen Lake in 1912.
