Parallel 45 Theatre performs a staged reading of The Thanksgiving Play, a contemporary, comedic satire about the beloved national holiday, on Feb. 13, at 7:30 pm at the Glen Arbor Arts Center, 6031 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor.

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore continues its 50th anniversary activities with a snowshoe and/or cross-country ski on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dune Climb. Join park rangers and volunteers from the Friends of Sleeping Bear Dunes and experience the park after dark as you snowshoe or ski along the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail under the full moon.

Join friends and neighbors for the annual Glen Lake Winterfest on Presidents Day Weekend: Saturday, February 15. Festivities include a perch fishing contest and chili cook-off.

Applications are available for the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s (GAAC) 2020 student exhibition, “Who Owns The Water?” This themed, juried exhibition takes place April 7-May 1, and is open to students in grades 9-12, attending schools in Benzie, Grand Traverse and Leelanau counties. The deadline for online submissions is March 4. Three cash prizes will be awarded.

In celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Superintendent Scott Tucker is pleased to announce that the entrance fee to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will be waived on Monday, January 20.

There’s a park party and you are invited! The National Lakeshore’s 50th anniversary activities begin with a kick-off celebration on Saturday, January 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Dune Climb.

On Friday, Jan. 17, at 1:30 pm, Mark Breederland, Extension Educator for Michigan Sea Grant’s Northwest District, will give a talk about current and projected water levels in the Great Lakes at Leland Township Library. Breederland gave a similar talk in Peninsula Township in November of 2019, which drew an audience of over 100 people.

Ekphrasis is the Greek term meaning to write about visual art. Area writers are invited to engage with the Glen Arbor Arts Center’s (GAAC) new exhibition, COLOR, and use the exhibition’s artwork as a source of writing prompts and inspiration. The exhibition features work by 29 visual artists, and runs January 10-March 26.
