Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore offers antique apple and pear tree pruning workshop

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore will be hosting its annual pruning workshop on May 1 in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District. The workshop will be held at the Lawr farmstead at 3144 M-22, Maple City, Michigan in the Port Oneida Rural Historic District, five miles north of Glen Arbor on M-22. Just follow the signs.

Remembering Michigan Supreme Court Justice “Betty” Weaver

Former Michigan Supreme Court Justice, and longtime Glen Arbor resident Elizabeth “Betty” Weaver has passed on. She was 74. Weaver served on the Supreme Court for nearly 16 years, from 1994 until 2010, and was Chief Justice from 1999 until 2001. Weaver was an adored and respected member of the Glen Arbor community. She lived on the banks of the Crystal River, just east of town.

This year’s theme is “Find Your Park” in coordination with the national campaign to launch the National Park Service (NPS) Centennial celebrations for 2016. From a night sky viewing event, to a scavenger hunt, to Junior Ranger Day activities, there is something for everyone.
