Arts Center hosts Talk About Art, Manitou Music series

The Glen Arbor Arts Center’s Summer Singers will “Talk About Art” during a short program of conversation and songs about home and place on August 4, at 2 p.m. at the GAAC, located at 6031 S. Lake St., in Glen Arbor. This program is open to the public at no charge.
Summer Singers is a community choir open to any person who loves to sing. Summer Singers director Mimi Gass will talk with GAAC gallery manager Sarah Bearup-Neal about the value and importance of singing; and how community singing enriches and enlivens a place. And, of course, there will be singing.
For more than 17 years the Summer Singers have performed the final Manitou Music concert. That tradition continues on August 13, at 7 p.m. at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church, located at 4902 W. MacFarlane Road, in Glen Arbor.
The Summer Singers’ “Home Again” concert is offered as part of the GAAC exhibition “New Views: Home/Place,” an exploration of home and place identity. It is on display until Aug. 8 in the GAAC gallery.
On Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 8 p.m., The Founding will perform at The Leelanau School as part of the 2019 Manitou Music series. The Founding is a progressive folk band with Celtic roots from Kalamazoo. They bring their timeless, energetic, and powerful approach to. Over the past two years The Founding has become one of the premier acts in their genre in Michigan and promises to be one of the best of its kind. The band strives to constantly push the boundaries of the Irish and Scottish music traditions.
