Art Association hosts Plein Air weekend
From staff reports
The ninth annual Plein Air Weekend is August 2-5 in Glen Arbor. The event, a project of the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA), offers a weekend of painting events for artists, that culminates in two exhibitions.
Plein Air Painting At-A-Glance: Enjoy an engaging slide presentation by the Glen Arbor Art Association’s 2017 Plein Air Paint Out judge, Hank Feeley, who will provide a background and understanding of landscape painting, and why artists are drawn to the challenge of painting en plein air. The lecture is Wednesday, August 2 at 10 a.m., and repeated at 7 p.m. at Feeley’s studio, 5763 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor. Tickets are $10, and may be reserved on-line at: glenarborart.org. Click on “All Programs.” Gain a sense of the challenges and approaches to landscapes and what to look for at the Paint Out exhibits.
The Sundowner: The Sundowner features artists painting the sunset along Lake Michigan and Glen Lake at such locations as Glen Haven, Inspiration Point, and Settler’s Park on Thursday, August 3, 7-10 p.m. A full moon might even inspire painting under the stars. Paintings from the Sundowner event will be shown and for sale at the Quick Sale on Friday, August 4, at the Glen Arbor Township Hall, 6394 W. Western Avenue.
Plein Air Weekend Quick Draw And Quick Sale: The theme of this year’s Quick Draw is “Paint The Town.” This event finds more than 70 artists capturing Glen Arbor’s or Empire’s charm and iconic businesses, in only two hours. The Quick Draw is Friday, August 4, 2-4 p.m. It is followed by the Quick Sale, 5-6:30 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Township Hall, 6394 W. Western Avenue. Admission to the Quick Sale is free.
Paint Out Event and Wet Painting Sale: Participating Paint Out artists return their completed works ready-for-display to the Glen Arbor Town Hall late on Saturday, August 5. A public reception for this juried exhibit and “wet painting” sale is 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Glen Arbor Township Hall, 6394 W. Western Avenue. Tickets are $10 if purchased by August 4, or $15 per person at the door. Admission includes a glass of wine, appetizers, and desserts.
