Vintage cars to visit Empire

From staff reports

On Friday, June 22, approximately 80 vintage automobiles will take part in “The Trophy Run” portion of the 2012 Great Race. These autos, the oldest being a 1907 Renault and the youngest a 1967 jaguar E Type will stop for a lunch break on Front Street in downtown Empire.

Their route will be north on M-22, west on Niagara Street, following Lake Street down to the beach and then returning on Lake Street and turning south and east onto Front Street where they’ll park herringbone style between La Rue and Union. The first car will arrive at noon and continue to arrive at one-minute intervals. The first car will depart at 1 p.m. and the last will leave at approximately 2:20.

The Empire Chamber of Commerce has asked that the Village close front street from 11.30 a.m. until 3 p.m. on the day of the event. Visitors are asked to park off the alley and keep Front Street clear. Read more about the Great Race at GreatRace.com.
