Third annual Running Bear 5K and Kid’s Run

runningbearPress release

The Glen Arbor Women’s Club will hold its third annual Running Bear 5K Run/Walk and half-mile Kid’s Run on Tuesday, July 28. This is the third year for this great event, which replaced the Glen Arbor Women’s Club’s annual October Smorgasbord after more than 40 years. The Smorgasbord had been a favorite with the community, so the Women’s Club wanted to make sure that the Running Bear run had something to offer everyone, from the youngest child to the grandparents.

The event features a half-mile Kid’s Run. Everyone who participates earns a ribbon and an ice cream cone from Riverfront Pizza and a miniature golf pass from The River at Crystal Bend. The 5K can be run or walked, so anyone can participate. Metals and prizes are given for first and second place in eight age categories starting at 12 and under and going up to 70 and above. Great food is available for the runners, and everyone registered in the 5K is eligible for a raffle, which includes over 40 prizes courtesy of area merchants. You could win a weekend at The Homestead resort, dinners from various wonderful restaurants, pieces of art, a handmade quilt and gift certificates.

Join the run on July 28 at 9 a.m. at Cherry Republic on Lake Street in Glen Arbor. Registration begins at 7:30. Registration forms can be found at Cherry Republic, the Glen Lake Chamber of Commerce inside Dune Wear, the Glen Arbor Athletic Club, Leelanau Vacation Rentals and Running Fit and Cherry Republic in Traverse City. The 5K Run/Walk costs $12, and the Kid’s Run costs $5. All proceeds go to local high school scholarships and community projects. For information call (231) 334-7363 or email runningbearrun@live.com.
