A Women’s Clothing Swap will be held on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 2, from 2-4 pm at Old Settler’s Park on the east side of Big Glen Lake. The fundraiser is to support a small school in Guatemala. Clean up your  wardrobe or pick up a few new things. Suggested donation is $10 or any other support. Women’s clothes, shoes and accessories in very good condition are accepted. Bring your gift items between 1-2 pm.

Longtime Leelanau Enterprise reporter Eric Carlson delivered the following address at Old Settlers Park on July 4 as part of the Glen Lake Woman’s Club annual Flag Raising ceremony. Carlson spoke about his career in journalism, both locally and in conflict zones, about the importance (and sometimes inconvenience) of a free press, about civil liberties, and this fraught political moment in American history.

The Glen Lake Community Church Men’s Group’s annual Concert in the Park benefit features Newt Cole and the Fabulous Horndogs with the Burdickville Boys as the opening act on Saturday, July 8, from 6-9 pm at Old Settlers Park on the east side of Big Glen Lake. The concert raises money to support the Empire Area Community Center Emergency Fund and Leelanau HelpLink, a ministry of Glen Lake Church. Both charities work cooperatively to identify and support local neighbors in need. A “free-will offering” will be taken during the intermission.

The Glen Lake Woman’s Club’s annual flag raising ceremony begins at 10 am on July 4 at the Old Settlers Picnic Grounds, located on the southeastern shore of Glen Lake near the corner of Dunn’s Farm Rd. (CR 675) and Burdickville Rd (CR 616). Please bring your own lawn chairs. Captain Kevin M. Quarderer, U. S. Naval Attache to the United States Embassy in Australia, will be the featured speaker.

Tucked away in the hilly heart of Leelanau County are two under-the-radar, off-the-beaten path towns that need to be moved up on your list of destinations. Maple City and Cedar are especially great Leelanau hubs if you’re a family with younger children looking for a more relaxed vibe, but still plenty to do.

Following a two-year hiatus due to COVID-19, the Men’s Bible Study group at Glen Lake Community Church is again presenting a “free benefit concert” at Old Settlers Park for the Leelanau, Benzie and Grand Traverse communities. This year’s July 9 concert will feature Aaron Boyd, an internationally renowned Christian recording artist.

Last summer’s Simon & Garfunkel tribute concert at Old Settlers’ Park was such a hit, they’re doing it again but with one major improvement. Enter “Looking Forward,” the trio made up of local favorites and all-around good guys—former Glen Lake music teachers Pat Niemisto, John Kumjian, and urban agriculturalist Chris Skellenger, of Buckets of Rain fame.

Celebrate the founding of our nation in a patriotic, joyous ceremony with community members of all ages. The Flag Raising will be performed by members of the local VFW.

The Glen Lake Garden Club’s full membership as well as friends, spouses and volunteers recently planted a variety of native flowering plants and grasses along a 2,533-square-foot sweep in Old Settlers Park on the east shore of Big Glen Lake.
