The Skegemog Raptor Center has announced that it will release a Bald Eagle following weeks of intensive treatment and rehabilitation for severe lead poisoning. The release will take place on Sunday, May 17, at 2:30 pm at Myles Kimmerly Park near Maple City. This eagle arrived in critical condition suffering from severe lead poisoning and underwent multiple rounds of chelation therapy, supportive care, and rehabilitation. Thanks to his resilience and the support of our community, he is now ready to return to the wild.

To all soccer aficionados, on Thursday, August 15, at 1 pm at Myles Kimmerly Park near Maple City there will be a NCAA division 1 exhibition soccer match. University of Virginia (UVA) v. Illinois.

A Plow Day groundbreaking ceremony and celebration of National Historic Preservation Month will take place at the Leelanau County Poor Farm Barn in Myles Kimmerly Park near Maple City on Saturday, May 25, from 10 am until noon.

Thousands of visitors flock to Leelanau County each year, many of them attracted by big draws such as the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. But while nothing compares to the delight of bounding down the Dune Climb after a sweaty trek uphill, or taking in the pristine view of the Manitou Islands from a sugar sand beach, there are plenty of lesser-known places in the county to have fun, too. Two of these places are sister communities Maple City and Cedar.
