Empire benefit honors local artist Karen Jacob

Local Personality, Upcoming Event

Empire resident and esteemed artist Karen Jacob will be honored at a special exhibit and celebration, “The Art of Karen Jacob,” on Friday and Saturday, August 23-24, at the Township Hall on Front Street in Empire. The exhibit is a charitable event, with all proceeds from art sales and donations contributed to the Michigan League of Conservation Voters Education Fund and the Empire Area Community Center. More than a hundred original works will be displayed. The exhibit will be open all day on August 23 and 24.

Cherry Republic giving campaign highlights climate change, local housing

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Cherry Republic’s 31 Days of Giving annual campaign, which runs through December. Throughout the past decade, the Glen Arbor-based company has provided grants to dozens of well-deserving organizations—“from loyal stewards of our climate to big-hearted groups that care for our neighbors who need a bit of a hand up during difficult times,” the company wrote in a news release. We caught up with Sara Harding, Cherry Republic’s vice president of climate and community impact, to learn more about the giving campaign.

Michigan Attorney General visits Cherry Republic

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, who faces a reelection campaign this fall, spoke to supporters in the Cherry Public House beer garden on August 17. The event was organized by the Michigan League of Conservation Voters and by Cherry Republic. Nessel spoke about shutting down Pipeline 5 and protecting abortion rights.

Cherry Republic launches ninth annual “31 Days of Giving” campaign

This December, Cherry Republic has launched its ninth annual 31 Days of Giving campaign, the Glen Arbor company’s oldest charitable giving initiative. Throughout the month, Cherry Republic will announce gifts totaling $300,000 to Michigan organizations protecting our water, climate, and quality of life.

Cherry Republic opens late on Election Day to encourage employees to vote

If you stop by one of Cherry Republic’s six Michigan stores on Tuesday morning, don’t be surprise to see a “Gone Voting” sign on the front door. On Tuesday, Nov. 6, all Cherry Republic stores and offices throughout the state will open at 10 a.m.—an hour later than usual—to give staff a chance to exercise their civic duty before reporting to work.
