Voted the Best Endurance Event in Northern Michigan by Traverse Magazine, the M-22 Challenge has become the “must do” event for athletes of all calibers. This run-bike-paddle race is hosted in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. This year’s M-22 Challenge will take place on Saturday, June 13, at 8 a.m.

Glen Arbor’s sleeping bear has awoken and had been sighted all over town in recent weeks. The presence of this black bear has drawn mixed reactions from the townsfolk. Bruce Laycock, who lives off of Trumbull Road, above Dunn’s Farm, in Glen Arbor Township, took the following video on Wednesday morning, May 6, of the Glen Arbor black bear and its cub.

Numerous Glen Arbor residents reported that a black bear visited their homes in late April. Barb Smith, who lives on Fischer Point near Big Glen Lake, took the following photos of the intruder, on both April 20 and April 30.

In advance of Glen Lake Restaurant Week, May 1-9, we reached out to La Becasse chef Guillaume Hazaël-Massieux to ask what excites him about this culinary opportunity before the local tourism season kicks into gear.

Since the mid-winter freeze is here, and since Empire and Glen Arbor’s “Winterfest” celebrations return this weekend, we decided to chat with Wayne “Soni” Aylsworth, whose all-season apparel outfitter, Empire Outdoors, is wrapping up its first year in business.

It began last March over at Woodstone. While Karen and Peter Van Nort were off in sunny Arizona, their house sitter was out walking their dog one day when an acquaintance drove by in a Glen Arbor Outdoor truck. He mentioned that he was checking their clients’ vacant homes as a precaution and asked if she had checked the Van Nort’s basement.
