Amy Bredehoft, from Birmingham, Ala., thought she was in shape to climb the Sleeping Bear Dune Climb on Monday, July 8. Sure, the 54-year-old and frequent summer visitor to Paul’s Paradise cabins on Little Traverse Lake had drunk coffee that morning and a couple alcoholic drinks the night before; she was on vacation, after all.

Currie’s Furniture in Traverse City recently donated 10 new, high-quality bed mattresses to the Glen Lake Fire Department—six for the Glen Arbor crew and four for Empire. The double-sided mattresses, which are made in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, cost approximately $330 each.

Mandy DePuy and her two Glen Lake daughters will benefit from this year’s Guns-N-Hoses event on Saturday, Feb. 23, at Centre Ice in Traverse City. The annual Guns-N-Hoses game originated with Traverse City’s Sara Posey, a former Munson EMT, and her firefighter husband, Tony.

Mike died suddenly on the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 16. He leaves a void in our hearts the size of the Manitou Passage.

Disagreement prevails within the Glen Lake Fire Department (GLFD) over whether the firefighters should have organized one year ago. They filed a grievance a week later, leaving many to wonder why. So, when Glen Arbor Township and Local 5086 of the International Association of Fire Fighters finalized their first contract on Sept. 1, 2016, people wondered if the issues behind the unionizing and grievance were resolved? And how will this affect the community?

More than 200 patriotic Americans, local townspeople and students from two high schools attended an emotionally stirring September 11 Memorial Service at the Glen Lake Fire Department this morning — an annual event in Glen Arbor to remember the fallen, to honor those that serve in uniform and risk their lives for our communities and our nation, and as a reminder that evil still exists today in a dangerous world.
