Paintings by Susanne Sandmeyer of Chapel Hill, North Carolina are currently on display at the Glen Arbor Art Association. Susanne grew up in Leelanau County and she studied art at the University of North Carolina. She has been painting and showing her large-scale abstract oils in Michigan, Minnesota, and North Carolina for over 20 years. Her show may be viewed Monday-Friday, June 18-29, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be a Meet & Greet for Susanne this coming Friday, June 22, 6-8 p.m.
Join the Glen Arbor Art Association on Monday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. for its Annual Meeting and celebration of the tenth anniversary of the GAAA building. A brief business meeting will be followed by the Readers’ Theater performance of “Murder in the Casbah”, a Sherlock Holmes tale. The Artist-in-Residence Collection will be exhibited. Twenty paintings by Sally Wille of Winnetka, Illinois are currently on display at the Glen Arbor Art Association. Watercolor artist, Sally Wille, earned a BFA from the University of Arizona. She likes the transparency of watercolor and that is evident in the landscapes, night scenes and reflective surfaces that she paints. Her show may be viewed Monday-Friday, June 4-15, 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. There will be a Meet & Greet for Sally this coming Friday, June 8, from 6-8 p.m.
obert Raack of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, is a representational watercolor and oil painter who will be presenting a talk on his art at the Glen Arbor Art Association on Thursday, May 31 at 7:30 p.m.
Sleeping Bear Gallery owner Heather Caverly hopes to bring an art revolution to Empire. Caverly purchased the Empire Clipper Building across Front Street from the Village Office in January and, together with curator Becky Willis, she aims to turn it into a haven that features artists in residence, demonstrations and lectures and, of course, displays of unique art including metals, wood, glass, fibers, paintings, sculptures, ceramics and photography. Caverly and her husband Mark live in the apartment upstairs.
The Glen Arbor Art Association’s (GAAA) second Artist-in-Residence, Rachel Drelles of Muskegon, Mich., is a printmaker and woodblock artist. The public is invited to her presentation on Thursday, May 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the GAAA’s building, 6031 S. Lake Street, across from Cherry Republic in Glen Arbor. Drelles is a graduate of Kendall College of Art and Design and has been student teaching in addition to furthering her own artistic life in printmaking, intaglio, collograph and woodblock prints.
The Glen Arbor Art Association is pleased to announce the 2012 roster of Artists-in-Residence. The residency program provides visiting artists with a respite from daily responsibilities, which enables them to concentrate on their work in a unique locale. Residencies are considered in writing, visual arts, photography, sculpture, fiber arts, ceramics, music, philosophy and creative research.
The paintings of Harvey Gordon are the focus of a solo exhibition at Traverse City’s Dennos Museum Center in April. On April 5, Gordon gives a preview of these new works — as well as a short tour of his long painting life, at the next “Talk About Art” interview, 7:30 p.m., at the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA).
Since her galvanic Mills College commencement address in 1969, Stephanie Mills has been speaking, editing, writing and organizing for ecology and social change. Mills brings her wit, humor and intelligence to the Glen Arbor Art Association for the next “Talk About Art” presentation on March 8 at 7:30 p.m.
