Liko Smith, Sugar Loaf resort’s aspiring new owner, plans to make the following changes to the resort’s ski hill once he completes the acquisition (according to an email he sent last night to local media … Please click on the photo to the right to see an enlarged image):

• Move ski lift # 2 (the only salvageable one) to where # 1 is now.

• Add a new lift where #3 currently sits.

• Rename the long ski run on the backside of the mountain.

• Build a three-story restaurant on top of the mountain (according to a report in this week’s Leelanau Enterprise)

Smith claims that an Australia-based investment group is interested in leasing the mountain. They’ll tour Sugar Loaf next week, and he currently rates the chances at 80 percent.
