Northern Pines Farm hosts foal “baby shower”
Northern Pines Farm is expecting! The public is invited to attend a baby shower and open house for two new foals on the farm in Maple City. The event will be held Sunday, May 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
It will kick off a summer of horse-related activities as well as celebrate the highly anticipated birth of two foals, both due May 25.
Activities are free and fun for all ages. They include:
• tours of the Northern Pines barn and farm, which includes 55 horses and 45 acres of pastures and indoor and outdoor arenas
• pony rides
• equestrian games
• the opportunity to be photographed with Northern Pines horses
• snacks and refreshments
• information about purchasing or leasing a horse
Also, two leading local equine-related businesses will be on-hand to offer information and prizes. Giveaways will include:
Northern Pines horseback riding lessons for any level of rider
• gift certificates and merchandise from Traverse City’s Red Hare Tack and Togs
• a VIP pass for two from Horse Shows By The Bay, Traverse City’s own equestrian festival.
Artwork by Morgan Fisher will be featured as well. Morgan, a Glen Arbor resident, specializes in printmaking and painting. Her work will be on display and available for purchase.

Northern Pines Farm is owned by nationally recognized trainer and competitor, Melissa Hirt. The state-of-the-art 45-acre facility offers an array of services including lessons, boarding, training and showing for riders of all disciplines and skill levels. For those interested in showing, Northern Pines Farm travels to both local and national “AA” competitions throughout the year such as the Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Fla. Northern Pines Farm also partners with the Leelanau School to provide a training facility for the school’s equestrian program.
