Tourism to Sleeping Bear Dunes creates over $231 million in economic benefits
Business FeatureA new National Park Service report shows that 1,683,554 visitors to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in 2016 spent $183 million in communities near the park. That spending supported 2,872 jobs in the local area and had a cumulative benefit to the local economy of $231 million.

M22 Earth Day donation to Leelanau Conservancy nearly $20,000
Business FeatureIn celebration of Earth Day last Saturday, M22, a Michigan-based lifestyle company, pledged 100 percent of all in-store and online gross sales to the Leelanau Conservancy. Supporters of both M22 and the conservancy came out in force, generating nearly $20,000 in sales, which represents the largest single-day donation by the company to the conservancy to date.
Empire holds 14th annual Asparagus Festival, May 19-20
Talk of the Town, Upcoming EventThe beloved and spear-ited 14th annual Empire Asparagus Festival is back. This year’s festival is Friday, May 19 and Saturday, May 20. Our Friday night block party kicks off the festival at 7 p.m., with a pig roast and live music under the big tent on Front Street in Empire. There’s a $5 entry fee and the pig roast is $11 per person.

The workshop will be held at the Miller farm, four miles north of Glen Arbor on M-22. Turn onto Port Oneida Road, go one mile and turn onto Miller Road, and follow the signs to the workshop site.
