Sobran Galleries

Circumstances lead Greg Sobran to take the summer off to travel and paint in 1989, and he has made a living from painting since then. He now travels and paints almost constantly with brief periods doing larger works in his studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His favorite painters include the Canadian Group of Seven (his Grandfather was French-Canadian), Albert Marquet, and John Singer Sargent. He has spent two months a year painting in Europe for the last fifteen years, and Greg, his wife Wanda, and their little dog, Jigs, spend extensive periods in South Florida and in the Rocky Mountains. Summers are always spent on Northern Lake Michigan where they have a summer studio and gallery.

Read this excerpt from M. Leth-Soerenson’s story, “Portrait of An Artist: Greg Sobran” which ran in the Glen Arbor Sun in August 2003:

“Entering the Sobran gallery on the west side of Glen Arbor one is offered a feast for the eye. There one comes face to face with impressionistic paintings of local scenery marked by their brilliant colors. Tropical Key West and images from France and Italy also adorn the walls or are found stacked on a table. Greg has done mostly watercolors over the years but has ventured more into oil painting lately. His new gallery opened in Glen Arbor this past spring as Greg and his wife Wanda decided to lease their own space from Ruth Conklin, who operates the gallery next door.”
