Readers Theater takes on Four Cab Rides
After successfully tackling Sherlock Holmes and similar ‘40’s era “radio style” plays, Glen Arbor Art Association’s (GAAA) Readers’ Theater has decided to take it up a notch with their next production, Four Cab Rides, Abridged.
Written by local Carol Winograd, Four Cab Rides is a series of conversations set in the back of taxicabs.
“This is a very different genre for us”, says Director Harriett Mittelberger. “The themes are definitely more mature and more acting is needed. It feels good to stretch a little!”
Producing a play written by a Glen Arbor local was part of the appeal. Winograd, a long time summer resident, was a speechwriter for many Michigan organizations. She has worked on this show with the San Francisco Playwriting Center but has given permission to the Readers’ Theater to produce this inaugural performance.
Honored to be in the cast are local actors Peter and Karen Van Nort, Susan McConnell, Mike Duwe, Mason Query, Cory Woessner, Joyce Bromberg and Readers’ Theater veteran, Rob Turney and his granddaughter, Claire Shipley.
Because of the overwhelming response to previous performances, in addition to Saturday evening and Sunday matinee, a Friday evening show has been added. The GAAA will also go to a RSVP ticketing system to ensure everyone has the opportunity to enjoy the popular Readers’ Theater. The performances will remain free of charge.
