Library holds annual Vintage Book Sale
The Friends of the Glen Lake Community Library have a 30-year tradition of supporting Library programs and collections through funds raised at their Annual Vintage Book Sale. This three-day event is held in mid-August at the Glen Arbor Township Hall. The schedule for this year’s sale is as follows:
Wednesday, August 11, 7-9 p.m. Preview Party, $5 Donation
At this special event, enjoy hors d’oeuvres, cookies, lemonade, and wine as you have the first chance to select from thousands of books, DVDs and CDs, games, and puzzles, all nicely organized into more than 50 categories. The Preview Party‘s Silent Auction offers an exclusive opportunity to bid on specially selected books signed by the authors. A special item on auction this year is a framed piece of sheet music from 1943. It is called “Song of Glen Lake” written by Nan Helm. It would be a lovely treasure for someone’s Glen Lake cottage.
Thursday, August 12, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Book Sale, Free Admission
Thursday’s sale is open to the public at no charge. Hard covers and trade paperbacks are $2 each, mass-market paperbacks are 50 cents each, and special books, many of them signed by the author, are available at reasonable prices. CDs and DVDs, as well as puzzles and games, are $2 each. Everything is neatly categorized to help you find just what you’re looking for. There is a special “Children’s Section” for our younger shoppers.
Friday, August 13, 9-11 a.m. Bag Sale Day Free Admission
This last half-day offers the best bargains. Fill a standard grocery bag full of books and pay just $5. If you miss this fun-filled three-day book extravaganza, the shelves in the Library vestibule always have the latest titles or great classics, gently used, for sale at bargain prices. Check it out each time you visit the Library; there’s something of interest for everyone. These books make great gifts, too. And remember, your purchase directly benefits the Library through this Friends fundraiser.
