Leelanau Conservancy hosts Earth Week events

Earth Week is a time to slow down, step outside, and reconnect with the natural world. Join the Leelanau Conservancy from April 22–25 as they explore local trails, gather with fellow nature lovers, and discover simple ways to make a lasting impact—one step at a time.

Wednesday, April 22
6:45 am: Sunrise Hike at Ingraham Preserve
Join LC staff for a serene sunrise hike at the Bart and Gail Ingraham Preserve, an 80-acre addition to the Cedar River Preserve. The 1.3-mile Ridgeline Trail offers a steady climb along a forested ridgeline that passes a vernal pool. At the top, you can see sweeping views of the Solon Swamp, the Cedar River, and South Lake Leelanau. Walking sticks recommended. Sign up here
3:30–6 pm: Earth Day Happy Hour at Tandem Ciders
Hang out with LC staff and learn about our land protection efforts and current projects. Light meal provided. This event is family-friendly, with kids activities offered on-site. All are welcome! Register here.
Thursday, April 23
1–3 pm: Creekside Chat with Benzie Conservation District
This roundtable discussion at Elmwood Township Hall will focus on caring for and maintaining natural shorelines. Bring your questions, swap ideas, and hear from experts. No prior knowledge needed. Immediately following the event, we will reconvene at DeYoung Natural Area for a walking tour of the trails and shorelines. Please register with Benzie Conservation District here.
Saturday, April 25
(FULL) 9 am: Docent-Guided Early Bird Hike at Lighthouse West Natural Area
Spring migration has begun, so bring your binoculars and let’s see what birds may be in the area in late April! We’ll keep a record on eBird and see if there are any surprises. This natural area is one of the best sites in the county for observing bird migration in the spring, as it provides a safe haven and food before the long northward haul over water. Weather can be a factor in April, so we will be mindful of that. The trail is mostly flat, with stairs down to the platform just above Lake Michigan. Sign up here
